Thomas Gene Tidwell

Mr. Thomas Gene Tidwell, age 83 of Salacoa Road, Fairmount, GA, died Tuesday, October 9, 2012 at his residence surrounded by his loving family after one year of declining health.

Mr. Tidwell was born in Walker County, Alabama on May 3, 1929, son of the late Thomas Hendrix Tidwell and Minnie Elizabeth Owens Tidwell. Prior to retirement and moving to the Fairmount community, he was employed by International Harvester Corporation as Zone Manager. He was a member of First Baptist Church Fairmount and a member of the Fairmount Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons. Mr. Tidwell is preceded in death by a sister, Clara T. Morgan and a brother, James Hendrix Tidwell.

Survivors include his wife, Carie Gravlee Tidwell to whom he was married for 64 years; a daughter, Barbara T. Kirksey and her husband Joseph Wayne Kirksey of Fairmount; grandson, Christopher Wayne Kirksey and his wife Jennifer; two great-grandchildren, Sarah Elizabeth Kirksey and Thomas Jackson Kirksey; brother-in-law, Odell Grady; sister-in-law, Elizabeth Moss; and two nieces, Shirley Jean Hall and Jada Tidwell. A host of cousins and other relatives also survive.

The Tidwell family will receive friends Wednesday, October 10th between the hours of 4:00pm and 6:00pm at Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home.

Funeral services for Mr. Thomas Gene Tidwell will be held Thursday October 11th at 2:00pm (CST) from Ridout's Funeral Home - Trussville Chapel in Trussville, AL, with Rev. Rick Langston officiating. Interment will follow in Jefferson Memorial Gardens in Trussville.
