Obituary
Tommie W. Francis, 74, of Calhoun, died Tuesday, January 8, 2019 at AdventHealth Gordon, following a brief illness. He was born in Central City, KY on July 10, 1944, son of the late Owen Blake and Opal Vincent Blake.
Tommie was a veteran, serving his country in the US Navy. He served aboard the USS DENEBOLA in Cuban waters during the Cuban missile crisis, and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, and the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal (Cuba). He served as Post Commander of Renis Barrett Post #5376, and Commander of GA District 1 VFW. He was retired from Bethlehem Steel.
Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Janet Lee Francis; sons and daughter-in-law, Tommie W. and Andrea Francis Jr. of Indianapolis, IN, and Eric Blake of Calhoun; daughters and sons-in-law, Tammy and Bob Taylor of Dover, TN, Kelley and James Leach of Portage, IN, and Debbie and William Abernathy of Cartersville, GA; brothers and sisters-in-law, Jerry and Christine Blake, and Glen and Barb Blake, all of Evansville, IN; sisters and brothers-in-law, Louise Shanks, and Debbie and Jerry Allen, all of Evansville, and Jeanette and Lonnie Alderson of Kentucky; grandchildren, Austin Stoner, Autumn Stoner, Jonathon Buchanan, Angela Buchanan, Tristin McKnight, Tyler McKnight, Theo Francis, and Ina Francis; and great-grandchildren, Brayden and Ethan Stoner, Kai Buchanan, Lynna Gray, and Faith Zombranna.
A Memorial Service, with Military Honors, will be held Saturday, March 9th at 1:00 PM from Victory Fellowship Church in Resaca, with Rev. Terry Timms officiating.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home of Calhoun.
