Mr. Troy Fain Lewis, age 89 of the Red Bud Community, passed away Tuesday, April 3, 2012 following several weeks of declining health. He was born in Gordon County on March 28, 1923, son of the late Fain and Annie Moss Lewis. He was also preceded in death by four brothers, Charles Lewis, Ralph Lewis, Herman Lewis, and Eugene Lewis; three sisters, Vera Stewart, Mildred Strickland, and Denah Underwood; and a son-in-law, Russell Barnette.
Mr. Lewis was a veteran, serving his country in the US Army during WWII. He participated in several battles and campaigns, including New Guinea, the Philippines, and Luzon. Among his decorations and citations were the Good Conduct Medal, WWII Victory Medal, American Service Medal, Asiatic Pacific Service Medal with four bronze stars, and the Philippine Liberation Medal with bronze star.
He was retired from General Motors after 36 years employment, and was a member of the Evergreen Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Louise Greeson Lewis of the residence; a son, John Lewis of White, GA; two daughters, Pam Barnette, and Gayla Dunson and her husband Charles, all of Calhoun; two brothers, Vernon Lewis and Max Lewis, both of Calhoun; and three sisters, Betty Whitfield and her husband Trammell of Calhoun, Irene Mooneyham of Marietta, GA, and Vonnie Truitt of Toledo, Ohio. Grandchildren surviving are Andy and Adam Barnette, Abby Barnette, April Butler, Brandon Jones, Amanda Lee, and Elliott and Ethan Dunson. Great-grandchildren are Arielle Evans, Langston and Quinten Butler, Braelyn and Lillie Jones, and Devan and Austin Lee.
Services to celebrate the life of Mr. Troy Fain Lewis will be held Friday, April 6th at 2:00pm from the chapel of Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home, with Rev. Crawford Greeson, Rev. Mike Gibson, and Rev. Jerome Silvers officiating. Interment will follow in the Haven of Rest Memorial Park with full military honors. Active pallbearers include Andy Barnette, Adam Barnette, Nick Blalock, Elliott Dunson, Ethan Dunson, Brandon Jones, Nick Carney, Tino Butler, and Bruce Blalock. Honorary pallbearers are Alan Mooneyham, Terry Whitfield, and Greg Lewis.
The Lewis family will receive friends at Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home Thursday from 6:00pm until 9:00pm.
