Dr. Verne Clarence Dortch, age 86 of Suwanee, GA, formerly of Calhoun, passed away Thursday, March 31, 2011 at the Noble Village Assisted Living Care Center.
Dr. Dortch was born on November 20, 1924 in Angwin, California, son of the late Clarence William Dortch and Lena Geneva Dake Dortch. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Marie Dortch, to whom he had been married for 62 years; and a son, Russell Dortch.
During his lifetime, he served his country with the United States Air Force, having attained the rank of Captain as a Dental Officer, and later attended the Emory University School of Dentistry. He was the owner of the Dortch Dental Clinic of Calhoun before retirement in 1999, and was a member of the Calhoun Rotary Club and the Flying Dentist Association.
Survivors include his children, Greg Dortch of Port Townsend, WA, Connie Caylor of Marietta, Gary Dortch of Sugar Hill, GA, Ron Dortch of Redlands, CA, and Joe Dortch of Ashville, NC. Nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren also survive.
The Dortch family will receive friends at Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home on Sunday, April 3, 2011 from 1:00pm until 4:00pm. A memorial service will be held following the visitation.
