Vertie Irene Harkins

Vertie Irene Harkins, age 96, a resident of Cleveland, passed away early Tuesday morning in a local health care facility. Mrs. Harkins was the daughter of the late Amanda Golden LeFevers and Clayburn C. LeFevers. Her husband, Dorsey Harkins, her sisters, Lena LeFevers and Vesta Dupree and her brother, Raymond LeFevers also preceded her in death. Mrs. Harkins was a seamstress most of her life. She also was a licensed Minister with the Church of God and served as an Evangelist for 25 years. Her life was reading her Bible and Intercessory Prayer! She taught Sunday School at the Crane Eater Church of God in Calhoun, Georgia for 30 years. She was a member of the North Cleveland Church of God.

Survivors include her daughter, Sue Brown and her husband Joe of Cartersville, Georgia, her sons, Harvey D. Harkins and his wife Patty of Cleveland, David Harkins and his wife Pat of Cartersville, Georgia, Jesse Harkins and his wife Joan of Gainesville, Georgia, her grandchildren, DeVee Morris of Cleveland, Derenny Harkins of Gainesville, Georgia, DeVonne Sullins of Cartersville, Georgia, DeAnne Johnson and her husband Ben of Lenoir City, Tennessee, Valerie Ford and her husband Ricky, Tom Harkins and his wife Robin all of Cartersville, Georgia, Andrea Smith and her husband Rodney of Gainesville, Georgia, Brent Boatwright of Cartersville, Georgia and Donna Harkins of Cleveland, her 12 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.

The Remembrance of Life Service will be conducted at 1:00 Thursday from North Ocoee Chapel of the Jim Rush Funeral Homes with Al Taylor and Pastor Mitch Maloney officiating. Graveside Services and Interment will follow at 3:30 Thursday in the Crane Eater Church of God Cemetery in Calhoun, Georgia with Tom Harkins, Derenny Harkins, Chad Morris, Sam Sullins, Jake Sullins, Brent Boatwright and Carson Ford serving as pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 11 until 1 Thursday at the North Ocoee Chapel of the Jim Rush Funeral Homes who has charge of the arrangements.
