Virgil Brown

Mr. Virgil Brown, age 81 of the Ranger Community, died Friday August 23, 2013 at his residence surrounded by his family.

Mr. Brown had lived the greater part of his life in Gordon County, was retired from the textile industry, and was a farmer.

He was born on October 7, 1931 in Dekalb County, Alabama, son of the late John H. Brown and Mattie Hawkins Brown. He was preceded in death also by three sisters, Bea Sluder, Dessie Mae Williams and Bernice Horne; and two brothers, Larry Brown and B.F. Brown. He was a member of Hopewell Baptist Church.

Survivors include is wife of 62 years, Geneva Sluder Brown of the residence; a daughter and son-in- law, Kathy and Jon Ayers of Ranger; and a son and daughter-in- law, Donald and Cindy Brown of Ranger; grandchildren, Kylee Zulueta of Calhoun, Lamar Brown of Ranger, Celeste Manzano of Calhoun, and Rebecca Price of Jasper; eight great- grandchildren; a sister, Nina Brown Cox and her husband Lloyd of Calhoun; and a brother, J.T. Brown and his wife Doris of Atlanta.

The funeral service for Mr. Virgil Brown will be conducted Sunday at 3:00 PM from the chapel of Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home, with Rev. Bryan Winkler and Rev. Wayne Fowler officiating. Interment will follow in Hopewell Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers serving will include Jimmy Sluder, Henry Cox, Randy Holland, Richard Fouts, Raymond Fouts and Randall Fouts.

The Brown Family will receive friends Saturday, August 24th between the hours of 4:00 PM and 8:00 PM, and Sunday, August 25th, from 11:00 AM until the funeral hour of 3:00 PM.
