Mrs. Virginia Poarch Edwards, of Adairsville, formerly of Calhoun, passed away Sunday, September 14, 2008 at Gordon Hospital. She was 82 years of age.
Mrs. Edwards was born on June 25, 1926 in Bartow County, daughter of the late Elijah and Beulah Hayes Sparks. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Carlton Poarch, and later by her husband Adell Edwards, as well as two sons, Carlton Eugene Poarch and Ricky Poarch; a granddaughter, Jennifer Poarch; a son-in-law; Buck Hawkins, a sister, Willie Mae Carney, and two brothers, Johnny Sparks and Ralf Sparks.
During her lifetime, Mrs. Poarch and her husband Carlton, owned and operated Poarch's Grocery on the Red Bud Road. She was a member of the Pleasant Valley Baptist Church near Adairsville, as well as being associated with the Cora Hayes Garden Club, the Red Hat Society and the Pleasant Valley Women's Auxillary.
Mrs. Edwards is survived by three daughters, Carol Hawkins of Calhoun, Barbara Bishop and her husband H.T. of Calhoun, and Deshea Hefner and her husband Gregg of Resaca; three sons, Terry Poarch and his wife Marisa of Resaca, Sam Poarch and his wife Debbie of Calhoun, and Chuck Poarch and his wife Kelly of Calhoun; daughter-in-law, Patricia Poarch of Calhoun; and a sister, Jaunita Everette. Eighteen grandchildren, twenty-one great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, and nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services for Mrs. Virginia Poarch Edwards will be conducted Tuesday at 2:00pm from the Craneater Community Church with Rev. Larry Hibberts and Rev. Eddie Brannon officiating. Rev. Brent Tatum will conduct the graveside service at Craneater Cemetery. Singing will be arranged by Melissa King, Donny Reece, Ladell Mealor and Stacey Poarch. Active pallbearers serving will include Allan Poarch, Brent Poarch, Cameron Poarch, Tim Poarch, Drew Poarch and Zack Foster. Honorary pallbearers serving will include Gary Evans, Brian Baxter, Darrell Poarch, Harold Buffington, Dwayne Everett, and the Deacons of the Pleasant Valley Baptist Church. They are requested to meet at the Craneater Community Church on Tuesday at 1:30pm. Interment will follow in the Craneater Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday evening from 6:00pm until 9:00pm.
