Vista Mae Smith Blackstock of Resaca, GA passed away Tuesday, October 4, 2011. Vista was born on July 8, 1917 in Gordon County, daughter of the late John Andrew Smith and Edith Bagley Smith. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Ewell; two sisters, Gustine Smith and Jessiruth Smith Doss; a brother, Howard Smith; and several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

She was a life long resident of Resaca and graduated from Resaca High School. She was a member of Maranatha Baptist Church where she was the secretary of the Encouragers Sunday School Class for many years, and was a member of the Ladies Prayer Circle. She and her husband Ewell was voted Family of the Year in 1990 by her church family. She was also a volunteer of a nursing home and a member of the Gadabouts.

Survivors include a daughter, Linda Blackstock Croom of Savannah, GA; a son, Bobby Blackstock and his wife Cheryl of Calhoun, GA; a grandson, Dr. Drew Corbett and his wife Virginia of Savannah; four great-grandchildren, Luke Corbett of Rome, GA, Anna Grace and Ethan Roberson of Savannah, and Abigail Corbett of Savannah; a sister, Johnnie Smith Wilson of Smyrna, GA; a brother-in-law, Dr. Calvin Doss of Wilmington, NC; a sister-in-law, Sue Blackstock of Resaca, GA; and several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to express their appreciation to the wonderful staff and friends at Morning Pointe Assisted Living, and At Peace Hospice for their excellent care and compassion.

Funeral services for Vista Mae Smith Blackstock will be held Sunday, October 9th at 2:00pm from the Maranatha Baptist Church, 535 Chatsworth Highway 225 NE, Calhoun, GA, with Dr. Drew Corbett, Rev. Tommy Crider, and Rev. Ron Bankson officiating. Interment will follow in Fain Cemetery. Active pallbearers will include Lee Doss, Randy Barker, Herbert Blackstock, Dale Hice, Derekk Dickard, and Johnny Perry. Honorary escorts are the staff members of Morning Pointe Assisted Living and At Peace Hospice.

The family will receive friends at Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home Saturday from 5:00pm until 7:00pm.
