Wallace Roland

Mr. Wallace Roland, age 78 of Hunt's Gin Road, Calhoun, died Friday, April 2, 2010 in Gordon Hospital following several months of declining health. He was born in Gordon County on January 31, 1932, son of the late John William and Myrtle Bramblett Roland. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a granddaughter, Kim Mullins; a sister, Mary Ray Holsomback; and a brother, J.W. "Bud" Roland.

Mr. Roland was a veteran of the United States Army, having attained the rank of Sergeant. He loved being outdoors, especially working in the yard, and loved being with his family. Prior to his retirement, he was employed with Mohawk and Carriage Industries.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley Dodd Roland, to whom he was married for 55 years; a daughter, Kathy Roland Mullins and her husband Steve; three sons, Lanier Roland and his wife Susan, Phil Roland and his wife Suzanne, and Mitch Roland and his wife Donna; grandchildren and their spouses, Zac and Katherine Roland, Becki and Sherman Hall, Jeni and Brandon Knight, Wes and Melissa Roland, Beth Mullins Wright, Shelly Renae Stanfield, Stephanie and Derek Smith, Gib Roland, Lauren Roland, and Christina Roland; great-grandchildren, Domy, Avery, and Shepherd Roland, Sulli and Jasper Knight, Jacob and Britton Wright, River and Lakelin Hall, Ava Roland, and Logan Smith; four sisters, Sue Lofty, Christine Watkins, Faye Durham, and Gwen Griffin; and three brothers, Travis Roland, Caris Roland, and Frank Roland. Also surviving is an aunt, Mattie Evelyn Hightower, and nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Services to celebrate the life of Mr. Wallace Roland will be held Sunday at 3:00pm from the Antioch Baptist Church, with Zac Roland, Howard Duvall, and Eddie Brannon officiating. Interment will follow in the Haven of Rest Memorial Park. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends at Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home Saturday from 5:00pm until 9:00pm.
