Mr. Walter Byron Love, age 80 of the Plainview Community, passed away Thursday, April 9, 2009 at Gordon Hospital following a brief illness. He was born in Gordon County on July 7, 1928, son of the late Leonard and Lora Stephens Love. During his lifetime, he was the head designer at Springs Industries, and was a member of Farmville United Methodist Church. Mr. Love was a veteran, having served his country in the United States Navy. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by two brothers, Jim Love and Howard Love; and a sister-in-law, Minnie Kate Love.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Alma Fagg Love; a son and daughter-in-law, Mickey and Elaine Love; a brother, Johnny Love; two grandchildren, Candace Poore and her husband Wayne, and Debra Blaylock and her husband Troy; five great-grandchildren, Chaz Mezick and his wife Candace, Sierra Smith, Kalieb Crowder, Sarphronica Love, and Tucker Blaylock; and one great great-grandson, Walter James Mezick.
Funeral services for Mr. Walter Byron Love will be conducted Saturday, April 11 at 2:00pm from the chapel of Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home, with Rev. Winford Casey officiating. Interment will follow in the Blackwood Springs Baptist Church Cemetery. Active pallbearers will include Jeff Grizzle, Kalieb Crowder, Tucker Blaylock, Wayne Poore, Troy Blaylock, and Drew Darnell. Honorary pallbearers will be Donnie Darnell, Wesley Thomas, Ronnie Thomas, and Chaz Mezick. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday between the hours of 5:00pm and 9:00pm.
