Dick, Orville Walter (Walter), age 82, passed away Wednesday evening, January 11, 2017, at Gordon County Hospital in Calhoun, GA while surrounded by family. He was a graduate of Benham High School in 1952, received his B.S. from Union College in 1956, and also his M.S. from University of South Carolina in 1979. He was an active member of the Cumberland United Methodist Church in Cumberland, KY. Influencing many, Walter formerly taught school for 52 years and continued to volunteer his talents as a mentor to GED students at the Southeast Community College in Cumberland, KY. He also served as a sports coach to many throughout the years. Walter was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, community volunteer and friend who loved to share his love of mathematics.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and Daisy Dick; brother, Ronald Dick and sister, Shirley Ann Dick; and his wife of 52 years, Judy Dick.
He leaves to cherish his memory, sister, Betty Stone; son, James Dick; daughters, Stephanie Dillard (Steve) and Judith Childress (James); grandchildren, Jeanene Castaneda (Jose), Larence Jordan, James Matthew Childress, Lauren Rivas, and Isaiah Dick; great grandchildren, Renee, Cristina and Mia Castaneda, Bly James, Luke and Lucy Dillard, as well as a host of family and friends.
You may visit with the family at the Cumberland United Methodist Church, 102 Frazier Street, Cumberland, KY on Saturday, January 14, between 5 9 pm. A celebration of life service will be held on Sunday, January 15, at 2 pm at the church. Interment will follow in the Benham Cemetery, Benham, KY where he will be laid to rest next to his wife, Judy.
The family would like to thank all who showed such kindness and offered much help during our fathers illness. In lieu of flowers, the family requests you to volunteer one hour of your time to a school or sporting organization of your choice in Mr. Dicks memory to pay it forward.
