Mr. James Clifford "Wayne" Thomas, age 71 of Calhoun, died Friday, June 21, 2013 at Kindred Hospital in Rome. He was born in Gordon County on January 20, 1942, son of the late William and Ardie Velma Mincey Thomas. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn Howard Thomas; and siblings, Allen Thomas, Margie Peppers, Virginia Rogers, Clara Nell Shaw, and Linda Hunt.
During his lifetime, Mr. Thomas was a self-employed contractor and a veteran, serving his country in the US Army.
Survivors include brothers and sisters, Doris Cox, Calvin and Shirley Thomas, Barbara and Robert Paris, Paul and Dorothy Thomas, Rev. Jimmy and Marie Thomas, Larry and Joan Thomas, Gail and James Wilson, and Judy and Ronald Turner; step-children, Donald McDaniel, Johnny McDaniel, Terry McDaniel, Roger McDaniel, Lynn Hicks, and Edith Cole. Several grandchildren, nieces, and nephews also survive.
Funeral services for Mr. James Clifford "Wayne" Thomas will be held Sunday, June 23rd at 2:00 pm from the chapel of Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home, with Rev. Norris Sexton and Rev. Dennis Childers officiating. Interment will follow at Haven of Rest Memorial Park. Active pallbearers are Clint Thomas, Zach Holder, Zane Holder, Andy McDaniel, Billy Thomas, and Danny Thomas. Honorary pallbearers are Dathan McDaniel, Andy Thomas, Kent Thomas, Ronnie Thomas, Michael Holder, and Jacob Towe.
The Thomas family will receive friends at Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home Sunday from 12:00 noon until the funeral hour of 2:00 pm.
