Wendell Harkins

Mr. Wendell Robert Harkins, age 63 of Calhoun, passed away Friday, March 25, 2011 at Gordon Hospital following fifteen months of illness.

Mr. Harkins was born on July 2, 1947 in Calhoun, son of the late Howard and Ola Bryan Harkins. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by a son, Robert Gregory Harkins, and a brother, Gary Harkins.

He was a retired truck driver for Southeastern Freight Lines and a member of Barrett Road Church of God.

Mr. Harkins is survived by his wife, Hazel Louise Green Harkins to who he was married for twelve years; two daughters, Julia Farrell and her husband Dennis, and Lisa Harkins; two sons, Anthony Wimberley and his wife Alisa, and David Wimberley and his wife Tammy; a sister, Glenda Davis and her husband Jackson; and four brothers, Ed Harkins and his wife Donna, James (Dub) Harkins and his wife Mary, Bob Harkins, and Milburn Bryan. Grandchildren surviving are Aaron Harkins, Makayla Farrell, Kaiden Farrell, Austin Wimberley, C.J. Wiimberley, Kristan Wimberley, Brittany Verner and Kailie Wimberley. Great grandchildren are Madison Verner and Memphis Manis. Nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services for Mr. Wendell Robert Harkins will be conducted Monday at 2:00pm from the Barrett Road Church of God, with Pastor Norris Sexton officiating. Music will be arranged by Freddy LaFew and Peggy Serritt. Active pallbearers will include Anthony Wimberley, Dennis Farrell, Terry Erwin, Joe Davis, Phillip Oliver and Harold Simerley. Honorary pallbearers will be Aaron Harkins, C.J. Wimberley, Mike Rich and Eddie Wright. Interment will follow the service in the Chandler Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home Sunday from 2:00pm until 5:00pm. On Monday Mr. Harkins will lie in state at the church from 12:00 noon until the funeral hour of 2:00pm.
