Wesley R. (W.R.) Southerland, age 69 of Dalton, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday September 25, 2010 in a Rome hospital after three months of declining health. He was born in Murray County on September 20, 1941, and was the eldest of nine children, born to the late Hardy and Alice Moses Southerland of Murray County and Gordon County. He was retired from Northwest Carpets in Dalton.
Mr. Southerland was preceded in death by a brother, James Southerland, and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Bob and Rosa Silvers Garland of Plainville.
Survivors include his loving wife, Doris Southerland; a daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Tony Kendrick of Dalton; sons and daughters-in-law, Greg and Renay Southerland of Dalton, Michael and Carrie Southerland and Mitchell and Wendy Southerland of Spring Place; a step-son and his wife, Mitch and Kristy Sorrells of Tucson, AZ.; sisters, Doris Chitwood and Mary Stone of Sugar Valley, and Carrie Daniels and Wanda Seabolt of Calhoun; brothers and sisters-in-law, Milton and Louise Southerland, Donnie and Denise Southerland of Chatsworth, and Jimmy and Dianne Southerland of Adairsville; grandchildren, Amy and Keith White, Melissa and Wesley A. Southerland, Robert and Gracie Kendrick, Jason and Angel Kendrick, Haley Kendrick, Timothy and Taylor Stone, Trevor Southerland, and Kristiana and Courtney Sorrells; great-grandchildren, Tyler White and Brysen Kendrick; and mother of his children, Edna Cook.
Funeral services for Wesley R. (W.R.) Southerland will be conducted Tuesday, September 28, 2010 at 2:00pm from the chapel of Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home, with Bro. Keith Reid officiating. Burial will follow in the Sugar Valley Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers serving will include Robert Kendrick, Jason Kendrick, Mark Stone, Timothy Southerland, Wesley A. Southerland, and Mitch Sorrells. The family will receive friends at Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home on Monday from 5:00pm until 8:00pm.
