Wilbert Wallace Pierce

December 3, 1918 — September 7, 2011

Mr. Wilbert Wallace Pierce, age 92 of Chatsworth, GA, passed away September 7, 2011 at his residence following an extended illness. He was born in Gilmer County on December 3, 1918, son of the late Guy and Cora Silver Pierce.

During his lifetime, Mr. Pierce worked with the Civilian Conservation Corp (CCC), helping build the road over Fort Mountain. He was a veteran, serving his country in the US Army during WWII. Among his decorations and citations were the World War II Victory Medal, American Service Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Service Medal with one bronze star, and the Good Conduct Medal. He was a member of the Fairview Church of God.

Survivors include his wife of 70 years, Sarah Frances Fields Pierce; three sons, James Pierce and his wife Sarah of Calhoun, Thomas Pierce and his wife Gail of Calhoun, and Harry L. Pierce of Fairmount; a daughter, Frances Burton of Chatsworth; five brothers, Al Pierce and Eugene Pierce of Ellijay, Samuel Pierce of Rome, and Wallace Pierce and Waldo Pierce, both of Ellijay; and three sisters, Helen Greer and her husband Bill, Mary Nell Troglin, and Estelle Southland, all of Ellijay. Twelve grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren, and seven great-great grandchildren also survive.

Funeral services for Mr. Wilbert Wallace Pierce will be held Saturday, September 10th at 11:00am from the Fairview Church of God, with Pastor Eddie Umbehant, Pastor Ed Pasley, and Pastor Mark Tatum officiating. Interment will follow in the Hopewell Baptist Church Cemetery. Music will be arranged by Iris Parker. Active pallbearers include Chris Pierce, Mitchell Pierce, Keith Burton, Mike Pierce, Eric Pierce, and Russell Pierce. Honorary pallbearers are Ryan Haynes, Corey Haynes, James Townsend, Bailey Townsend, Brody Burton, Seth Pierce Johnson, Tyler Pierce, Alex Pierce, and Castle Williams.

The family will receive friends at Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home Friday from 5:00pm until 9:00pm.
