Mr. Wilburn James Mashburn, age 98 of Calhoun, passed away Thursday, July 17, 2009 at Gordon Hospital. He was born in Whitfield County on April 24, 1911, son of the late Carl Mashburn and Maude Pye Mashburn. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Lucille Jackson Mashburn; an infant daughter, Hattie Jeanne Mashburn; three brothers, Floyd Mashburn, Erwin Mashburn, and Malcomb Mashburn; and two sisters, Lula Mae Whitner and Florine Cline.
Mr. Mashburn was a veteran, having served his country in the United States Army during WWII, and received the Victory Medal. He was retired from Forest Mills and was a member of the College Street Church of God.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Eddy Watkins of Calhoun; a sister, Bulah Faye Evans of Dalton; a granddaughter, Sevann Watkins; and nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Funeral services for Mr. Wilburn James Mashburn will be conducted Monday, July 20 at 2:00pm from the chapel of Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home, with Rev. Walter Hare and Rev. John Bearden officiating. Interment will follow in Gordon Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday from 6:00pm until 9:00pm.
