Rev. Wilburn L. Childers, age 93 of Ranger, GA passed away at his home on Red Bud Road Thursday, November 17, 2016, surrounded by his family.
He was born in Pickens County, GA on September 26, 1923, son of the late James David Childers and Mary Elizabeth Morgan Childers.
Rev. Childers was a member of Mount Carmel Church of Jesus Christ, where he pastored for over thirty years. He conducted many revivals, and was known for visiting the sick, both in the hospitals and in their homes. He loved playing the guitar and mandolin, singing, and preaching. He attended many singings throughout his life. He also loved to travel, and traveled extensively throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico, and the Bahamas.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by seven brothers, Harve Childers, George Childers, Charlie Childers, Hilburn Childers, Robert Childers, Jimmy Childers, and Columbus Childers; and three sisters, Lillie Mathews, Stella Bryant, and Bonnie Cronan.
He leaves behind his wife, Lula Williams Childers, to whom he was married over 70 years; his daughter, Betty Fite and her husband Knox of Cartersville; his son, Travis Childers and his wife Vickie of Calhoun; grandchildren, Kevin Fite of Acworth, and Erin Rogers of Dallas; and two great-grandchildren, Chase Foster of Dallas, and Anna Fite of Calhoun.
The Childers family will receive friends on Saturday, November 19th from 5PM to 9PM at Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home.
Services to honor the life of Rev. Wilburn L. Childers will be held Sunday, November 20th at 2:00 PM from the Chapel of Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home, with Rev. J. B. Ezell and Rev. Knox Fite officiating. Interment will follow in Haven of Rest Memorial Park. Music will be arranged by Gail Atcheson. Pallbearers are Kenneth Bryant, Willard Childers, Adam Childers, Brian Childers, Clifford Crump, and David Crump.
