William Black

Mr. William "Blackie" Curtis Black, age 86, of Calhoun, passed away on Monday, February 5, 2007, at Gordon Hospital. He was born in Fairburn, Georgia on November 7, 1920, son of the late Paul and Lena Griffin Black.

Mr. Black was a retired Missionary, having served in Texas, New Zealand, Australia, the Bahamas, Hawaii, the Fiji Islands, and American Samoa. He was also a veteran of the United States Navy.

Survivors include his wife, Georgia Ann Payne Black; sisters; Pauline Wise of Peachtree City; Rhebie McLarthy of Marietta; Lilla Dorris of Sarasota, Florida; and a special friend; Rosa Lee Jacks of St. Cloud, Florida. Several grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive.

Funeral services for Mr. William "Blackie" Black will be conducted at 11:00am on Thursday, February 8, 2007, from the chapel of Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home, with Rev. Isaac Johns and Rev. Lee Payne officiating. Interment will follow in the Georgia National Cemetery. Active pallbearers will include Bill Hood, Harold Dodd, Burl Wilson, David Brown, Ken Thomas, and Terry Mullins. These gentlemen are asked to meet at the funeral home at 10:15am on Thursday. Honorary pallbearers will include Charlie Flemmings and Oscar Reedie. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday between the hours of 5:00pm and 8:00pm.

The family requests that flowers be omitted, and contributions be made to the Rev. Lee Payne family for medical expenses.
