Obituary

Mr. William Fred Nesbitt, 90, a lifelong resident of Gordon County, died Thursday, March 1, 2018, at Hamilton Medical Center, following several months declining health. Fred was born in Gordon County on January 10, 1928, son of the late Marion Buford Nesbitt and Lois Isabelle Lance Nesbitt.
Fred was a member of the 1948 graduating class of Calhoun High School. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force, having served from 1951 to 1955. He attained the rank of Staff Sergeant, and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal. He was a faithful member of Calhoun First Baptist Church since 1948. Fred loved his church and enjoyed spending time with his family and many friends. He was retired from Georgia Textile Corporation.
He is survived by his loving wife, Ruth Griffin Nesbitt, to whom he was married for 60 years; his son, Lenny Nesbitt of Calhoun; granddaughters, Allison Nesbitt of Calhoun and Amy Nesbitt Underwood and her husband Jason of Calhoun; brother-in-law, Eugene Griffin and his wife Gwen of Rockmart, and Donnie and Tracie Nesbitt of Calhoun; along with many other relatives.
A service to celebrate the life of Fred Nesbitt will be conducted on Saturday, March 3rd at 3:00 PM from the Calhoun First Baptist Church. Dr. Bert Vaughn and Dr. John Barber will officiate. Interment will follow in Chandler Cemetery. Donnie Nesbitt will oversee the music.
Pallbearers serving will include Tim Haney, Jimmy Palmer, Jeff Brown, Jerry Clements, Joel Ostuw, and C.J. Blalock. Honorary pallbearers include the ladies at CVS Pharmacy.
The family will receive friends, Saturday, March 3rd at Calhoun First Baptist Church between the hours of 1:00 PM and 3:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be given in Freds memory to the "Faith Forward Fund" in care of Calhoun First Baptist Church, 411 College Street, Calhoun, GA, 30703.
