William Joseph Coskrey Jr

Mr. William Joseph Coskrey, Jr., age 81 of Calhoun, GA passed away Wednesday, July 11, 2012 at Gordon Hospital following several years of declining health. He was born in Spring Hill, AL on May 4, 1931, son of the late William J. Coskrey, Sr. and the late Canava Lassiter Coskrey. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a son, Michael A. Coskrey.

Mr. Coskrey was a lifetime member of the VFW, a Mason, a Shriner, and a 20 year Army veteran. He served in Korea and Thailand among other countries. He received numerous medals and commendations including the National Defense Service Medal with 1st Oak Leaf Cluster, Vietnam Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal with 3rd Oak Leaf Cluster, and Good Conduct Medal, 5th award. He was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include his wife of 26 years, Barbara Jean Craig Coskrey; two sons and daughters-in-law, William and Lois Coskrey of Houston, TX, and Gary and Terry Coskrey of Martinez, GA; two daughters and sons-in-law, Cindy and Glenn Coryea of Naples, FL, and Karen and Blake Gordley of Maryville, TN; and step-children, Russell Wayne Woodward of Calhoun, Roxanne and Rick Carnes of Fairmount, and Vicki and Michael Crowe of Cartersville. Grandchildren surviving are Jessica Coskrey, Scotty Coskrey, Ryan Coskrey, Jenna Coskrey, Lacy Hambling, Austin Coryea, Danielle Gorley, Jared Gordley, Brock Gordley, Jason Woodward, David Wormington, Melissa Leonard, and Brandi Underwood; and great-grandchildren, Eric Hambling, Spencer Hambling, Brooklyn Gorley, Lucas Gorley, and Payton Gordley.

Funeral services to honor the life of Mr. William Joseph Coskrey, Jr. will be held Friday, July 13th at 3:30pm from the chapel of Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home, with Rev. Eddie Brannon officiating. Interment will follow in Gordon Memorial Gardens with full military honors.

The Coskrey family will receive friends at Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home Thursday from 5:00pm until 9:00pm.
