Mr. William Monroe Arthur, age 84 of Calhoun, passed away Monday, March 3, 2008 at Gordon Hospital following several years of declining health. He was born in Marco Island, Florida on December 26, 1923. During his lifetime, he was a commercial fisherman and a tour guide. Mr. Arthur was a veteran, having served his country in the US Army.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Gertrude Virginia Arthur, and two daughters, Janet Leigh Arthur and Sheila Jones.
Survivors include sons; Richard Glenn Arthur and his wife Tammy of Calhoun, Michael Wayne Arthur and his wife Chris of Spokane, Washington, and William Monroe Arthur, Jr.; daughters, Felicia Ann Jones and her husband Jimmie, and Linda Jones, both of Calhoun. Twenty four grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services for Mr. William Monroe Arthur will be conducted Thursday, March 6 at 11:00am from the chapel of Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home, with Rev. Nick Sheppard officiating. Interment will follow in Gordon Memorial Gardens. Active pallbearers will include Billy Milligan, Jessie Jones, Frank Jones, Justin Parker, Dustin Massingill, and Mitchell Massingill. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday from 9:00am until the funeral hour of 11:00am.
