Obituary
William "Bill" Paul Kirby, 97, of Fairmount, GA died Friday, October 9, 2020. He was born in Aims, Iowa, to the late Paul and Maude Kirby, on July 12, 1923. Formerly from Woodland Park, Colorado, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 68 years, Ruby Pauline Kirby; siblings, Myrtle, Oral, Pauline, Arden, and Howard; son-in-law Butch Johnson.
He is survived by his daughter, Penny Johnson of Pine Log; grandchildren, Jessie and Matt Edwards of Kingston, Dalton and Madison Johnson of Adairsville; several nieces, nephews, and other relatives also survive.
Mr. Kirby enjoyed many recreational activities such as shooting, four-wheeling, riding mules, hunting, and fishing. He was also locally famous for dirt track racing in his home town of Urbana. He was a decorated veteran of World War II and received the Victory Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Army of Occupation Medal, Japan, Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon, and the Philippine Liberation Ribbon. He enjoyed retirement for 34 years after working as an equipment operator on the Alaskan Pipeline and civil service at Fort Carson.
Mr. Kirby had a great 97 years with his only hesitations being leaving his family, soon to be great grandchild, and his beloved dog Dolly.
To honor his wishes his body was cremated and a private service will be held at a later time.
