William Pettit

William "Hambone" Pettit age 72 of Calhoun passed away Tuesday morning March 6, 2007 at Gordon Hospital.

He was born in Gordon County on May 25, 1934 son of the late Charles and Bertha Haney Pettit. He was a veteran of the United States Navy and a member of the VFW Post 406 of Calhoun. He was preceded in death by three brothers; Olen, Wayne and Jimmy Pettit.

Survivors include two sons; Gary Pettit and Robert Jones. Five sisters; Cathryn Mashburn and her husband Jack of Resaca, Faye Abbott of Ellijay, Sue Pettit Kirk and her husband Charles, Nan Taylor and Evelyn Gaines all of Calhoun. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral Services for William "Hambone" Pettit will be conducted Thursday March 8, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. from the chapel of Max Brannon & Sons Funeral Home with Rev. Eddie Brannon officiating. Interment will follow in the Chandler Cemetery. Pallbearers serving will include Jack White, Lambert White, Courtland Gaines, Brent Erwin, Chuck Pettit and Kevin Benton. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m.
