Mr. William V. (Dub) Worley, age 87 of Plainville, passed away Saturday, July 25, 2009. He was a native of Gordon County, born on July 12, 1922, son of the late William V. Worley, Sr. and the late Julia Greeson Worley. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by five brothers, Kirby Worley, Trammell Worley, Gussie Worley, Virgil Worley, and Conneley Worley; two sisters, Vergia Chieves, and Nettie Mae; and a son-in-law, Kenneth Squires.
Mr. Worley was a veteran of the US Navy, having served in WWII on the USS Bunker Hill. He was a charter member of the Cherokee Mustang Club, and a member of the Meadowdale Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife of 36 years, Inez Thomas Worley; two sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Claudia Worley of Calhoun, and Ronnie and Sue Thomas of Cartersville; two daughters, Carolyn Squires of Calhoun, and Deborah Dempsey and her husband Charlie of Plainville; nine grandchildren, Lorenda Ballew, Teresa Phifer, Sommer Bennett, Sayward Worley, Samantha Worley, Julie Hunt, Tyler Darnell, Jason Thomas, and Trey Thomas; and nine great-grandchildren, David Phifer, Kristin Phifer, Josh Ballew, Julia Ballew, Declan Bennett, Amelia Hunt, Allison Hunt, Neila Thomas, and Devin Thomas. Nieces, nephews, and other relatives also survive.
Funeral services for Mr. William V. (Dub) Worley will be conducted Tuesday at 11:00am from the Meadowdale Baptist Church, with Dr. Steven Pearson, Rev. Garry Tate, and Rev. Steve Skates officiating. Mr. Worley will lie in state at the Meadowdale Baptist Church from 10:00am until the funeral hour of 11:00am, with the deacons of the church serving as Honorary Guard. Interment will follow in the Franklin Cemetery. Active pallbearers will include Glenn Carden, Bob Rollins, Jimmy Payne, Reid Sewell, Ray Ballew, Scott Phifer, and Stacy Hunt. These gentlemen are requested to meet at the funeral home Tuesday at 9:15am. Honorary pallbearers will be the Eunice Jones Sunday School Class.
The family will receive friends at Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home Monday from 5:00pm until 9:00pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Mr. Worley's name to the American Cancer Society at www.cancer.org.
