Mr. Willie "Bill" Bennett, age 82 of Calhoun, passed away Friday, January 3, 2014 at his residence following several months of declining health. He was born in Americus, GA on May 21, 1932, and was preceded in death by his wife, Sheila Russell Bennett in 2000.

Mr. Bennett was retired from the US Army, serving in Korea and attaining the rank of Sgt. Major, and had also retired from the IRS. He attended the Sugar Valley Old United Methodist Church where he was dedicated to helping wherever he was needed.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Melanie and Mike Gravitt of Calhoun; a grandson, Koty Gravitt; nephew, Sammy Russell; an aunt, Gladys Henson of Selma, AL; cousins, and other relatives.

The family would like to thank the staff of Heyman Hospice for their special care of Mr. Bennett.

Graveside funeral services with military honors for Mr. Willie "Bill" Bennett will be held Monday, January 6th at 11:00 AM from Chandler Cemetery, with Rev. Eddie Brannon officiating. Members of the Calhoun American Legion will serve as pallbearers and will include Bruce Henderson, Bill Dempsey, Lamar Mealor, Juddie Campbell, Larry Freeman, and Walter Morris.

The Bennett family will receive friends at Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home Sunday from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM.
