Dr. James Woodrow "Woody" Lee, age 61 of Calhoun, GA, died Friday, November 26, 2010 at Gordon Hospital surrounded by his loving family. Dr. Lee had been in declining health for 13 months, and prior to that he enjoyed life to the fullest. He loved serving his church families and enjoyed fellowship with his pastor friends. Among his hobbies were traveling, playing golf, fishing and hunting, but his greatest love was to preach.
During the past 41 years, Brother Woody had pastored several churches across northwest Georgia, north Alabama, and Indiana, and was a member of the executive committee of the Georgia Baptist Convention. He was currently serving as pastor of Antioch Baptist Church in Calhoun.
Following Dr. Lee's call into the gospel ministry, he received formal training at Moody Bible College in Chicago, Illinois. He received his Doctorate of Divinity from Covington Theological Seminary, where he later served as professor.
Dr. Lee is survived by his loving family including his wife Charlotte, to whom he was married for 45 years; a daughter, Amanda Nagl and her husband Michael; two sons, James Woodrow Lee II and his wife Anita, and Phillip C. Lee and his wife Linda; his grandchildren, James Woodrow Lee III and his wife Katie, John Mitchell Lee, Cassie E. Lee, Charlotte L. Nagl, Mikayla Nagl, and Jeffrey Rhinehardt; and three great-grandchildren, Lila Lee, Sydney Rhinehardt, and Vivian Kate Lee, who will be born soon. Also surviving are two sisters, Vicki Lee LaShore and her husband Jerry of Gadsden, AL, and Annette Lee Nelson and her husband Ray of Gadsden, AL. A host of other relatives also survive.
Funeral services for Dr. James Woodrow "Woody" Lee will be conducted Monday November 29, 2010 from Antioch Baptist Church at 10:00AM, with Rev. Jerry Dudley, Rev. Ron Bankson, Dr. Ken Conner, Dr. Larry Hibberts, Rev. Rick Langston and Rev. LaVoyd Whitton officiating. Another funeral service will follow at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Aroney, AL at 2:00PM (CST) with Rev. Wayne White officiating, along with Rev. Jimmy Harrison in charge of the graveside service. Interment will follow in the Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery in Alabama. Pallbearers serving will include the deacons of Antioch Baptist Church along with Randy Muse and Phillip Gilbert. Honorary pallbearers serving will include Dr. Maxwell Parrott, Dr. Eric Turner, Dr. Craig Box, Dr. Brent Box, and Dr. Will Theus and their staff, and area pastors along with the executive committee of the Georgia Baptist Convention.
Flowers will be accepted by the family or donations may be made to the Antioch Baptist Church Christian Family Life Center Building Fund.
The Lee family will receive friends Sunday between the hours of 5:00PM and 9:00PM at the Antioch Baptist Church Family Life Center.
